There are newborn adoptions, as well as those of infants (under 12 months of age) through foster care and private adoption in the United States. One should be aware of the demands of parenting a newborn. These include changes in social and work schedules, new routines, interrupted sleep cycles, and being at the beck and call of another individual’s needs. These can be exhausting but new parents revel in the daily accomplishments and rejoice as their children reach developmental milestones: lifting their heads, rolling over, scooting on their stomachs, recognizing their parent’s faces and voices – all bring great joy to new moms and dads. Friends and family offer advice, and hopefully respite for the weary parent, but finding a peer group is most helpful as you make daily decisions and try new parenting skills.
