Countries through the world allow adoption of children into the United States when they cannot be cared for in their home country. All international adoptions must meet regulations of the sending country, as well as those of the United States which includes the need for an Adoption Service Provider accredited by the US Dept of State. You will need a favorable adoption home study conducted by a Hague accredited agency and approval from USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services). You must also meet all requirements of the country from which you are adopting. International adoptions take varying amounts of time. There is also a supervisory period after the adoption to assess the child and family’s adjustment.
